“Drawing keeps coming back…Does one ever stop drawing? Can one ever give it up?” Jacques Derrida
The Forbidden
Life drawing, once a cornerstone of artistic training, has gradually lost its appeal in numerous art schools, being deemed outdated and irrelevant. However, the allure of this ancient medium, with its visual and tactile delights, continues to captivate the hearts of many art students and seasoned professionals alike. “The Forbidden” is an artistic endeavor that showcases several figures meticulously crafted using a metal pen and ink wash on both sides of a 35x600cm watercolor paper, delicately enclosed within a plexiglass box. This project delves into the stark contrast between the gratification derived from the manual act of traditional drawing and the conceptual priorities prevalent in contemporary art. By juxtaposing the enduring pleasure of engaging with traditional artistic techniques with the prevailing trends and demands of the contemporary art world, “The Forbidden” invites contemplation on the interplay between tradition and innovation, and the potential for harmony between the two.

Life Drawing
Life drawing serves as my artistic conduit, allowing me to embark on a journey of improvisation akin to composing classical music. Through the utilization of traditional drawing techniques and principles, I engage in a captivating interplay with figures on paper, aiming to cultivate a harmonious spontaneity within my artwork. Each stroke of the pencil is an exploration into the unknown, as I am oblivious to the final outcome that will manifest on the canvas. I diligently sketch various poses, intertwining them with their surroundings, all on a singular support surface, in an effort to unify disparate elements into a cohesive piece. Furthermore, life drawing presents an opportunity for personal expression and exploration. As I delve into the realm of improvisation, I am free to experiment with various artistic approaches and techniques. This process allows me to push the boundaries of my creativity, continually challenging myself to discover new ways of capturing the essence of the human form. The spontaneity inherent in life drawing encourages me to embrace the unexpected, leading to unforeseen artistic breakthroughs and discoveries.
